Formed in Stockholm in the spring of 2021, Washing Machina are rapidly emerging as a compelling new voice in alternative rock. Their sound fuses infectious pop sensibilities with adventurous, avant-garde guitar textures, forging a distinct identity that nods to the raw energy of Foo Fighters, the experimental spirit of Sonic Youth, and the melodic grit of The Breeders, Pavement, and Dinosaur Jr. Hook-forward and immediate, their songs still leave room for the unexpected—sharp turns, noisy details, and bright melodies pushed through a restless alt-rock lens.

Following the critical acclaim of their early EPs Perfect Misfits and Last Bag on the Belt, Washing Machina released their ambitious debut album The Spontaneous Splendid on Lövely Records. The record showcased the band’s fearless creativity and marked a clear evolution in their sonic landscape, earning praise across the alt/indie press:

  • “The combination of rock and pop melodies is beautiful, almost ethereal…” — distortedsoundmag.com
  • “For a debut album, The Spontaneous Splendid does its job very well… with sweet and syrupy guitar melodies and high-spirited vocals…” — illustratemagazine.com
  • “A beautifully warm and endearing listen… proves Washing Machina are still very much on top of their creative game.” — mysticsons.com

Now the band are building toward their next chapter: their second album, Before My Mind Wakes Up, due in May 2026. Two singles have been released so far—“Come” and “Debbie Lost Her Mind”—with “Debbie Lost Her Mind” gaining notable momentum after being picked up by John Kennedy and played on X-Posure on Radio X. With that support behind them, Washing Machina are continuing the rollout with two more singles set to land before the album drops.

Renowned for their electrifying, high-energy performances, Washing Machina have quickly become a sought-after live act, opening for bands like Bdrmm and appearing at festivals such as Fools Gold.
