Washing Machina are an indie rock four-piece from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in the spring of 2021. The creative spark ignited when Mark, Karl, and Sara began exchanging musical ideas, with Emelie joining on drums to complete the lineup. Drawing inspiration from Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth, The Breeders, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement, and Dinosaur Jr., the band blends catchy pop melodies with avant-garde guitar work to craft a sound that is distinctly their own.
Their debut EP Perfect Misfits announced the band’s arrival with five tracks of melodic indie rock. As The Other Side Reviews noted, “Washing Machina infuses their indie rock with a dash of everything we adore about classic rock, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.” A second EP, Last Bag on the Belt, followed — praised by Less Than 1000 Followers for its “catchy guitar riffs, diverse grooves, and elegant vocals.”
In March 2024, the band released their debut album The Spontaneous Splendid through Lövely Records to widespread critical acclaim. Distorted Sound Magazine wrote that “the combination of rock and pop melodies is beautiful, almost ethereal,” while Illustrate Magazine praised its “sweet and syrupy guitar melodies and high-spirited vocals.” Mystic Sons called it “a beautifully warm and endearing listen.” The album was supported by a sold-out headline show at Heaven Up Here in Stockholm and a run of dates across Sweden.
Now, Washing Machina return with their second album Before My Mind Wakes Up, out May 2026 on Epicuro Records. Preceded by three singles — Come On, Debbie Lost Her Mind (featured on Radio X’s X-Posure with John Kennedy), and The Top — the album marks a new chapter: sharper, more direct, and more confident than anything the band has released before. AnalogueTrash called The Top “indi sad-pop at its most sublime.”
